Joe's After Action Review http://joesafteractionreview.com The Life, Uncensored... Sun, 15 Mar 2009 16:23:06 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.7.1 en hourly 1 Thats My Boy… http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=106 http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=106#comments Wed, 11 Mar 2009 04:55:17 +0000 Joe http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=106 Well it is official…

That's My Boy...

I feel like a team that has been compromised, pinned down, and about to be smoked when they hear the roar of the 30MM cannon of the first A10 - “Warthog” and the rockets of the Apaches coming in to save our asses.

I have been doing the backstroke in the sea of estrogen for so long that I now have to sit to pee.
I live in a house with my lovely wife and count ‘em 1, 2, 3, daughters.

And for those who don’t really know Airborne Math, when that little paratrooper comes out swingin’ his chain we will then outnumber the currently ruling gender.

Ok, Ok, Not that anything will actually change as far as the pecking order around here I know.
But hey, let me have this at least for a few minutes before I have to go scrub the bathtub and change out the laundry.
Jeeze…

“If you ever need anything…” http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=102 http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=102#comments Tue, 24 Feb 2009 21:51:06 +0000 Joe http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=102 Ok, here’s one that everyone can relate to at one level or another

You know all those people who with a tear in their eye were giving you hugs of support after something difficult happens in your life; like when your soldier disappears through the security check point going to get on the bird to deploy, when a family member you rely on is sick or hurt, or plainly your for whatever reason going to be going through a difficult time soon.

Most likely every single one of them pledged to you “If you ever need anything, anything at all, you just call me and I’ll be right here for you”?

Funny thing is if you actually did call on most of those people, they for one reason or another couldn’t help you?

I call those people “Launch Pad” friends.

When these people make all of these empty promises I believe they are doing it for many possible reasons but none involve actually giving a shit about your problems.
Mostly I think they say these things just because they feel like it is what they are supposed to say but truly don’t give any thought to what if you did call on them.

When I left for Iraq there were many people who told my wife and I that they were so proud of me and that if we ever needed anything at all that it would be taken care of ASAP.

Hell, my wife couldn’t even get anyone to look at her truck for her to tell her what might be wrong with it and if she should even put it into the shop or not.
I’m not talking just a day or two. She asked multiple people if they could take a look at it just to tell her what she ought to do. Every single one said that they would come over and take a look at it and for her not to do anything with it until they do because many shops would try to take advantage of her so they wanted to have an idea of what to expect ahead of time. (that by the way is what they were telling her so for those of you who are already thinking “Well she should have just quit waiting on those people and took it on in to the shop” why would she want to risk getting ripped off when so many people are telling her that it most likely WILL happen.)

While I was deployed and then when I got back there were many examples of this, so many that I could probably make a “WIKI - I’ll NOT Be There” site. There was a soldier who had 8 children (yes I said EIGHT) while in Iraq he got blood cancer was sent home and was dead within 2 months of our returning. We were limited as a Unit in giving them any cash or things to help out (don’t get me started on this) but there were people flinging the tearful promises left and right to these family members, last I heard they had not received much in the way of help at all since.

I got hurt while doing my time down range and it caused some MAJOR changes in my life. This isn’t the time to go into all of that but let’s just say that I can safely count on one hand the times that someone went out of their way to help me / us with something that I just can’t do anymore. Which means that most off the time I end up pushing myself way to far, and my wife ends up having to do entirely too much on her own. Especially now while she is pregnant.

I have soldiers and friends who are currently deployed and the same sad stories come trickling through. While all the fanfare is going on, everyone loves the soldiers and feels for their families but mysteriously when those people are driving home from the emotional gathering, they somehow forget that those people are still there and they are still alone.

This goes all the way up to the general public and the politicians as well in my opinion. When I walked into Wal-Mart wearing my DCU’s or ACU’s people would come shake my hand and tell me how proud they are of me and thank me for my service.
Now I get out of my vehicle wearing civilian clothes parked in a handicap space with disabled veteran tags, and Operation Iraqi Freedom sticker as well, and I have received dirty looks, smart ass mumblings and even out and out hateful comments like ‘you sure as hell don’t look handicap to me, you ought to be ashamed at using someone else’s (tags)’, ‘just because the car has disabled plates doesn’t mean that anyone driving it can park in the handicap spaces, only the one who they are issued to can’, and so on. I even had a police officer waiting on me when I came out of Wal-Mart one time because they got called and he wanted to verify that I wasn’t fraudulently using someone else’s tags.

So much for the loving members of my country promising to support me and others like me when we come home a bit worse than when we left.

I think that this is all symptomatic of the basic belief that I have now. It’s all good when people want you to do something for them or when someone uses you or your situation to make them feel better about themselves. But all of this only applies when it doesn’t cost them anything such as time, effort, money, sacrifice. Any time you need help from the multitudes of people who even get on television and swear how much they love such and such group of people and want to see everything done to help them, ask, if only to yourself, who have they actually personally helped and why.

As for on the more personal level of family, friends, and acquaintances, the sad fact of the matter is that at least for military families, we honestly don’t expect much in the way of help outside of our own front door because when we do rely on it, we get disappointed and left all alone, sometimes in worse shape than if we had not of asked for the help and believed the BS.

For those of you who find yourselves thinking and remembering someone who is having a hard time, how about at least calling them once in a while to let them know you remember they are alive, sometimes that alone makes a world of difference in how a person handles adversity.

For those of you who are still waiting on that friend to show up or call you back to let you know when they can come help you; all I can say is don’t make plans based on others. Make your plans based on what you can do and hopefully there may be some true friends that will show up at the time when you need them the most.

Media Player http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=86 http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=86#comments Tue, 24 Feb 2009 11:07:10 +0000 Joe http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=86 You know, I have been messing with this add on “widget” so that I can have a few selected items for your listening or viewing pleasure while you are reading all of the wonderful, insightful, highly educated, and respected thoughts of yours truly. (OK maybe I’m a bit delusional about all that but hey, you gotta have goals right?).

Anyway I have been fighting this stupid thing for days now, hence the no posting because my obsessive compulsive side took over and didn’t allow me to think of anything else.

I finally broke down and, dare I say it, gave up.
Well ok not really gave up, but I had to postpone the roll out until I got some answers on the “I need help because I am too stupid to figure this out on my own” Forum.

So anyway I figured I would give you a little something to watch while I dig through all of my coding books, web site reference pages, and consult my beloved “For Dummies” books trying to figure out why I’m having these issues:

This is a video made from within a game called Star Wars Galaxies.
The creator made it to go with a song by a comedian named MC Chris about everyone’s favorite Bounty Hunter…

Boba Fett

I did begin one of my newest features which is a polling “widget” I am going to be running various different polls, just to see what the rest of the world, outside my head, thinks about things.

If you have any ideas of polls you would like to see just pass them on and we’ll see what we can do.

To all my soldiers, friends, and brothers in Iraq right now…
Be careful.
I miss you guys and I know that all of you will do the same bad ass job as we did before.
I just wish I was able to be there with you.

To my “Children of the Korn”:
Your up now; show ‘em how its done and piss ‘em off so you can bring ‘em home.

BTW how did all the mud surfing go this year?

You know, there might be something to being a “Fobbitt”, why don’t you guys try it out for once and let me know.
Heh, yeah right if you guys had to stay in the wire longer than a few days you would be chewing your own legs off.

Watch your ass down range and send me some goodies from the hajji shops.

Getting there… http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=66 http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=66#comments Tue, 17 Feb 2009 07:32:52 +0000 Joe http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=66 Well, I have made some headway on this damn site and I am extremely tired.

Unfortunately there are times when it is impossible for me to sleep so I climb into the cockpit of this time machine.

I call it a time machine because, as those of you who spend much time starring at the unnatural glow of a monitor have already learned;

Time passes at an accelerated rate so when you think you have been behind the keyboard for an hour or so you find out that it has actually been 6 hours and your spouse is asking you if you want your mail forwarded to your new address in your office.
You know, not to get too involved just yet because I have ALOT to say on this subject, but I was just listening to a guy on FOX News talking about how we FAILED in Iraq.
Hmmmmm… We “Failed”… let me think about that…
I would like to offer this food for thought…

First off who the fuck is we?? I don’t remember seeing him on any missions in Iraq.

I was in Iraq, I had soldiers under me in Iraq, I have buddies and family (which by the way are both the same thing to a soldier) who are in Iraq, I have friends who’s last breaths were in Iraq, and you know what…

I never failed a mission, my soldiers never failed a mission, niether my buddies or my family members ever fail their missions and my friends who gave their lives for the mission.. I DARE you to say they failed.
The only ones who failed are you sorry ass bastards who only think about what is trendy to support this week.
I can’t tell you how many times before 911 that I heard people bitching to me about how we ‘Should have gone on into Iraq and kicked oh Sadam’s ass, but the Government lost its nerve and just let him crawl back home’.

When we got hit in 2001 every single one of you were screaming to send me and my boys out to chase down the big bad Hajis.

Then when I was on a counter terrorist team I had people telling me how we ought to go get rid of the bastard in Iraq who was paying the families of “Homicide Bombers” ( a term I learned while in Iraq which I prefer to use, I don’t wish to give them the misguided sense of satisfaction to think they are anything better than chicken shit murderers of innocent people).

Well damn it, we went in like we were told to, took the entire country over in just a few days ( because we ARE the shit) and then we spend the rest of the time trying to keep the innocent people safe from all the ignorant shit heads.
You may think of the Iraqi people as some abstrct mass of ‘Them’  but most of them actually are people who love their children as much as I love mine.
When you think of what it would be like for you to live in fear everyday that your child will be shot, blown up, kidnapped for ransom, driven over, raped or even worst of all just vanish, you can then know that you arent even close to what these people have to look forward to each day.
Then I hear all these brainiacs in Washinton (or wishing they were in Washington) who swear they know what the Military should do and how to do it.
Hell truth be told most of them are just a bunch of loud mouth politicians trying to jump into the lime light by saying what they think is good for that day, who I venture to guess have no idea what the difference between M16-A1 and a M4 is or what slicing the pie means or even tell me what a “Prick” 104 is.

Ohhh yeah they know how the Military Operations are run…  Go back and watch PVT Ryan or Band of Brothers again while your secretary, personal assistant, aid, or what ever you wish to call them, rubs your feet and tells you how sexy you are in stolen hotel robes you fat bastard and leave the real warriors alone.

But these bone heads think they can tell my Generals how to do their job and put bull shit expectations in the heads of all the people here at home so that they start losing confidence and faith in what we are doing which translates to losing belief in us.

Then when we are no longer the flavor of the month all of a sudden everyone is saying shit like ‘I never wanted our troops in Iraq’, ‘I think we went into Iraq for no good reason’, and even shit like ‘I see no reason why we can’t be completly out of Iraq in 15 months’.

WTF!! you know what all of you sound like to us who were and are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, and yes even still Kosovo (remember that word?), and hundreds of other places around this damn planet?

You sound like a bunch of winy ass, insecure, untrustworthy, lyng fucks who will turn your back every single one of us just to be invited to the latest ‘I want something new’ party and get a free glass of French wine.

Hell, quit cheating on your wives, pay your taxes, kiss your kids, read your Military for Dummies book, then go on a patrol in Baghdad, or Nassiriya, for a year or hell just go on a sight seeing trip in the beautiful mountains of Afghanistan for six months, then MAYBE you will have a right to criticize me and my soldiers until that time…

Hello world! http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=29 http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=29#comments Mon, 16 Feb 2009 17:40:17 +0000 Joe http://joesafteractionreview.com/?p=29 Well here we are.

I have been attempting to add in all sorts of sexy new gadgets but it seems that I have a bit more to learn about Word Press because my computer has been suffering from uncontrollable laughing fits when I try to get it to do something new.

I am trying out different CMSs, themes, and multimedia add-ons.

I am going to be playing around with this thing quite a bit so if you see things you like or don’t like, let me know.

It always helps when you get a fresh view on things when you are trying to improve / upgrade your stuff.

Once I get all this a bit more finalised we will get down to the business at hand, which is me telling you how the world should be and that if your smart you will conform to my way of thinking after all, “This is the beginning of a new era…”

Hell maybe we can form our own cult and get us some snazzy Nike “hightops” and bubble-wrap suits, then wait for Boba Fett to come ask us to join him in the hunt for his daughters boyfriend who stole Jango’s armor when the two lovebirds snuck into the airlock for some “Force sensitivity training”.

– It could happen…
